The Mortal Method Collective explores what it means to be mortal and to approach academic work with awareness of life’s impermanence. I was responsible for all the project materials including the visual identity and logo for the website, building the website in Wordpress, setting up their mailing campaign, and designing an interactive document that would live on the site. The opportunity to work on all facets of the project was such a pleasure and helped ensure consistency throughout process.

Drawing inspiration from photographs taken during the collective’s retreat, I developed a colour palette that featured dark earthy colours of forest decay and contrasted them with bright pops of colours inspired by lichen, the blue of the ocean, and one of the member's bright coral coloured jacket. The branding aesthetic is reminiscent of old scientific diagrams and field notes. The visuals emphasize texture and feature illustrations of natural decay—such as leaves, mushrooms, and tree stumps—to reflect the project’s exploration of mortality, renewal, and the interconnectedness of life.
I enjoyed the process of bringing the branding into the website, and finding creative solutions for laying out their content. In addition to producing a fully responsive website, I set up the email campaign in Mailchimp to guide participants through the 30-day reflective journey. This involved designing the email layouts, setting up automations, and testing the journey to ensure a seamless experience for those who signed up for the mailing list.
The Mortal Method PDF carries over the website’s visual identity to create an interactive, book-like experience within the browser. The design uses thoughtful typography and colour contrast for a user-friendly reading experience. A printer-friendly black-and-white version was also produced for users who preferred a physical copy.
